Resurrection Power: There Is No More Death, Crying, or Pain Now
The Book of Revelation uses symbolic imagery that is interpreted through preceding biblical texts. Under this framework, scriptural promises about the end of tears, pain, and death indicate that Christ has already conquered death, actually removing suffering for believers.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes…There shall be no more crying, death or pain (Revelation 21:4 NIV)…For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3 NIV)…Oh death, where is thy sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55 NIV).
Because The Revelation of Jesus Christ, The Spirit of Prophecy, communicates its message through signs and symbolic imagery, and the Bible interprets itself, Revelation’s descriptions should be understood according to what those signs metaphorically refer to, in previous parts of the Bible.
Considering all this, the first paragraph above means that death is vanquished in Christ’s victory over death, and thus God has already wiped away our tears and removed our pain by that.
