Testimony
My testimony and the story behind the way I see God began when I was a child, growing up during difficult times. Even then, I found great comfort in the Bible’s descriptions of Heaven and the hope they gave me.
Over the years, I began noticing ways that ordinary experiences could remind me of those biblical truths. Eventually, I brought these ideas together into a framework for associating things we encounter in everyday life with Scripture and to reveal the present Kingdom and heart of God — Romans 14:17 AMPC.
For example, when I see light, I may be reminded of Jesus’ words: “You are the light of the world.” — Matthew 5:14 NIV.
Within the framework, different environmental cues can serve to remind of particular biblical passages and themes. When I notice one of these cues, the verses associated with it can come to mind and enter my awareness.
The associations aren’t limited to physical things. Expressions of what I understand as God’s Kingdom of Love can also become reminders—for example, kindness and care between living creatures. These experiences show God’s Omnipresence, His Holy Spirit, heart for mankind, and goodness described throughout Scripture.
Because these things have been deeply meaningful to me since childhood, I sometimes become overwhelmed with joy—even to the point of tears—when I notice or participate in them. For me, these moments are ways of seeing and experiencing God’s love, presence, and Kingdom within ordinary daily life, which I have long cherished.
The system is my attempt to organize these personal devotional associations into a framework that can be explored and practiced. It isn’t intended to replace Scripture, but to help me—and potentially others—notice everyday reminders of encouraging biblical truths.
I have made a copy of the framework available for free, at my website, devotionsplus.com, for anyone interested in exploring it.
